Surviving Sybil: My Quest for Justice is a work of non-fiction in the workplace, family life, and motivational writing subgenres. It is based on true events and was penned by author Roberta Conner from her own experiences. In this harrowing tale of an underdog trapped in a nasty situation, we discover how Roberta felt when under the thumb of a merciless boss at the IRS who discriminated against her and derailed her promising upward career path. Along with the help of her supportive partner, Roberta campaigns to the EEOC for justice, but the road is far from straight and simple to gain any sense of justice, and to recover from the damage that one person in a position of power can do.

After experiencing some of the fantastically humorous and uplifting work of this author, I was fascinated to delve deeper into her life and experience the struggles and more difficult times. Author Roberta Conner is equally as talented in expressing her deepest lows as she is with her highs, and the journey she undergoes throughout this work is quite something to experience even second-hand through her eyes. From the uncertainty of initial attitudes and clashes to the deep, sinking feeling of knowing something very wrong is happening to her, Conner maintains a sense of realism and confidence in her authorial style that lets you know that life is far from easy, but perseverance and the support of those who love you will see you right in the end. Overall, Surviving Sybil is a fascinating must-read for anyone working in similar establishments, and for readers, in general, seeking original, high-quality non-fiction that reminds us to stay strong in tough times.

A unique story of perseverance and courage:
This story is based on actual events. Surviving Sybil tells the story of the author, a middle-aged white woman on an upward career path at the Internal Revenue Service until she gets a new boss – a black female manager – who has other ideas about the future of this employee.

The author details the numerous incidents of verbal abuse and disparate treatment she received while working for a superior she could never satisfy. Fortunately, many of those discriminatory actions were witnessed by the author’s own employees – and her fellow IRS managers. After two emotionally charged years of enduring a hostile work environment and struggling – without success – to satisfy her new boss, the author finally decides to take the appropriate legal action through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She and her husband join forces to fight the federal bureaucracy and right this terrible and unjust wrong.

Enjoy the riveting action at the EEOC hearing and the subsequent legal developments in the author’s attempt at ultimate justice.
From one satisfied reader: “Amazon came today and left your book. I finished it in one sitting! It is riveting. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! It is wonderfully written. Your courage in fighting the system was extraordinary and so admirable.”
