“In Warpath to Murder: An Ancestor’s Revenge by Jimmy Ray Conner, Detective Chris Taylor investigates a shocking murder in Saratoga Springs, where a white male has been scalped, and criminal defense attorney Kate Johnson wants to assist. The duo seeks the expertise of professors on Native American weaponry, scalping practices, and an amulet, but when another murder occurs, the focus narrows to two possible scenarios: one on revenge against white society and the other on diverting attention by making the crimes look tribal-related. An FBI profiler collaborates with Chris on the ‘Warpath Murders’ case as public outcry intensifies, triggering a surge in gun sales, road rage, an attack on a reservation, and anti-Native American sentiment. Meanwhile, another violent assault occurs, and crimes of the past and present begin to converge with four potential victim links, all in a race to stop a serial killer terrorizing the once peaceful community.

Warpath to Murder: An Ancestor’s Revenge is the second standalone novel in Jimmy Ray Conner’s Chris and Kate Taylor Mystery series, preceded by book one, The Deadly Canvas. I really enjoyed how the points of view that Conner employs are shifting, and as a result, we are allowed glimpses of powwows, tomahawk throwing contests, and even how to thwart an assault with fishing supplies! My favorite part, however, is learning about cultures alongside pivotal characters and the twists that Conner adeptly maneuvers with regard to readers thinking they know exactly who is pulling the murders off and then throwing spanners in the work.”

Book Two in the Chris & Kate Taylor Mystery Series

A mysterious serial killer is terrifying the residents of Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. Four white men have been savagely murdered and brutally scalped. Are these the acts of a renegade Native American seeking vengeance against the white man or a homicidal maniac attempting to divert attention from his own diabolical scheme?

The clues left behind are provocative and revealing. An ancient Indigenous American tomahawk is identified as the murder weapon. Distinctive tribal amulets are found near the bodies to taunt law enforcement further. Suspicious footprints at the crime scenes have soft edges as if made by traditional leather moccasins. The national and social media refers to the serial killings as the Warpath murders.

Homicide Detective Chris Taylor and his beautiful attorney girlfriend, Kate Johnson, join forces for a second time to solve this puzzling case while nurturing their evolving romantic relationship. Can they revive the deductive synergy they applied to solve a series of homicides involving Kate’s sister along the New York canal system last year?

During the intense Warpath murder investigation, Kate becomes distracted by the romantic overtures of a charming and persuasive archeology professor. Chris Taylor faces his own demons as he struggles to stay faithful to Kate despite the unrelenting efforts of gorgeous FBI agent/profiler Maria Alvarez to seduce him. Will Chris and Kate survive the physical dangers of confronting a crazed serial killer? Is their fledgling love strong enough to overcome the romantic temptations placed before them?

This crime thriller is fast-paced, and the police action is gripping. The courtroom drama is compelling. This nail-biting whodunnit will have readers on the edge of their seats trying to solve this chilling and complex murder mystery.
